Is it the end of the BR trend? The answer remains unclear, but one thing is sure: League of Legends recently overtook Fortnite as the most-watched game on Twitch over the past year.

LoL: League of Legends is the most watched game on Twitch

The gaming world is surely a mystery to understand. If some things might be predictable, most of the times people just follow the trends. Ten years ago, we were all praising Starcraft II and the renewal it was bringing to the RTS genre. After Broodwar and Warcraft III, this game was just a revolution. During that time, people were still playing DotA, and slowly but steadily League of Legends became the most played — and most-watched — game. You couldn't step away in the street without hearing people talk about it. You couldn't go to your local cyber without seeing people losing their nerves in the ranked queue.

However, time changed, slowly but steadily, and the MOBA genre embodied by LoL, DotA 2 and Heroes of the Storm, felt down from the top, leaving its crown to the newly-elected trendy mode: the Battle Royale. It goes without saying that Fortnite: Battle Royale became incredibly popular over the past years. From Ninja's ascension to the children dancing in the streets, this game took League of Legends spot in the blink of an eye.

However, it seems that this era is now over, that's Fortnite's reign is getting to an end.

Over the past year, it appears that League of Legends was more watched than Fortnite, with the former increasing its number of hours watched by 13.2% while the latter decreased by 12.9%.

Overall, it even seems that people that were watching Fortnite simply started to watch League of Legends. It's not that surprising if you're considering the fact that the League of Legends 2019 World Championship reached over three million viewers in peak last month. It also might explain the sudden passion for the MOBA.

Does it mean that the BR trend is over? Will Fortnite loses all its player base?
