As mentioned in our previous article, Square Enix teased the reveal of a new, exclusive trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake at the Tokyo Game Show.
After obsessively watching the countdown timer and feeling like it was taking forever, the trailer that did eventually go live did not disappoint.
It was a flurry of action, revealing a lot more of what players can expect — all set to an outstanding, pulse-heightening orchestral version of Nobuo Uematsu's Those Who Fight Further.
Several previously unseen aspects of the game were shown, including the first look at the Turks, the Shinra black-ops agency, summons Shiva and Ifrit, the motorcycle chase to escape the Shinra building, and a peek that hints the iconic Don Corneo cross-dressing scene remains.
This is sure to please sceptics of the Remake, who worried that several scenes would be cut from the game to fit its new style and gameplay.
However, that's not the case, as the Corneo segment, including the squatting minigame at the Gym, seems to prove.
Also shown was the ability to play darts, presumably at 7th Heaven, and Tifa competing in a pull-up contest, hinting at more minigames for players to help pass the time.
Other tidbits were shown off in the trailer, including a look at President Shinra — who, instead of flying in via helicopter, appears as a hologram beamed by a drone.
Status effects and summons will play an important part in combat, too, just like in the original game — although it remains to be seen how Materia will be implemented.
Final Fantasy VIII Remake is scheduled for launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020, with the first episode covering the original game's Midgar section.
The arrival of Final Fantasy VIII on modern consoles was something players had to be patient for, unlike other outings in the series. This comes after worries we would never see a port, given internal technical concerns, but thankfully it’s now here for our enjoyment.
