UPDATE: Sony postpones PlayStation 5 games showcase

UPDATE: 1 June

In a statement on social networks, Sony announced that 'right now is not the time for celebration' and that they wanted 'other, more important voices to be heard'.

This is in response to the current unrest events surrounding the killing of George Floyd while in police custody, and the subsequent mass protests staged across the U.S. and worldwide.

No new date has been given for the event.

ORIGINAL STORY

The event will run for just over an hour, according to Sony in a PlayStation Blog post, and contain games from both large and small studios.

This is the biggest reveal of anything PlayStation 5 so far, following specific State of Play episodes for Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part II. One thing Sony will aim to do is avoid the controversies that surrounded Microsoft's 'gameplay' reveal of Assassin's Creed Valhalla a few weeks ago.

It is not clear whether this will involve a look at the console itself, but it appears Sony is keeping that reveal for another day.

We've already had tech specs and a look at the DualSense controller, but it appears Sony are keeping their cards close to their chest with regards to the machine itself, the price, and release date.

Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive, remains excited for the launch.

"The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware."

You can follow The Future of Gaming stream on the official PlayStation YouTube or Twitch channels on June 4 at 1PM PT / 10AM ET / 9PM BST / 10PM CEST.
