Everything revealed during the Inside Xbox event

Billed as a monthly broadcast showing off what we can expect from the next-gen Xbox Series X, Microsoft's Inside Xbox gave us a glimpse of no fewer than thirteen different titles, across a range of genres.

From the historical action of Assasin's Creed Valhalla to hustling on the field in Madden 21, there was something for everyone — including a few surprises. You can find all the trailers below.

The biggest titles

Undoubtedly the biggest titles on show were the quartet of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Madden 21, Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon:

The best of the rest

  • From racing game specialists Codemasters comes Dirt 5, the latest in the long-running rally series, and which promises to be the biggest title yet.
  • Scorn, a frightening first-person horror title from Ebb Software, struck us with its Zdzisław Beksiński-style imagery. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass straight from release.
  • Chorus, infuriatingly styled 'Chorvs' in the trailer, is a space-flight combat shooter from Deep Silver and Fishlabs, is slated for a 2021 release. You'll take on the role of pilot Nara and her sentient craft Forsaken, as she sets off on a journey of redemption.
  • From developer Out of the Blue and published by indie darlings Raw Fury comes Call of the Sea, an adventure game set in the South Pacific in the 1930s. As well as looking simply gorgeous, it promises to be rich in narrative for those, like myself, who love a good story.
  • The Ascent is a solo or co-op action RPG, which on first viewing looks like the lovechild of Diablo and Cyberpunk. It tells the story of a world in which the megacorp that owns you and everyone else, The Ascent Group, has collapsed, leaving behind chaos. It'll be on you to survive.
  • From Bloober Team, who gave us Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and the excellent Rutger Hauer-starring Observer, comes The Medium. This next-gen psychological horror set in the historic Polish city of Kraków has strong Silent Hill vibes — which is in part due to the series composer, Akira Yamaoka, teaming up with the Polish developer's Arkadiusz Reikowski for the soundtrack. The game also promises no load times at all.
  • Anime fans weren't forgotten with Bandai Namco's contribution to the show, SCARLET NEXUS. In the distant future, a threat known as Others endangers life as we know it. As Yuito Sumeragi, a member of an elite force of psionic soldiers, it's on you to save humanity.
  • Second Extinction is a co-op FPS from Systemic Reaction which prompted comments on Twitter of 'how Jurassic Park ends' and 'futuristic Turok'. You'll have to team up with other players to take down wave upon wave of mutated dinosaurs, which promises to be epic!
  • Finally, Bright Memory: Infinite is a shooter developed by FYQD-Studio — a ONE-PERSON studio from China, namely Zeng Xiancheng. While that's madness in itself given how impressive the game looks, it promises to be a fusion of the FPS and action genres. Featuring epic car chases in which you need to take the wheel, you'll need to combine skills and abilities in order to investigate an archaic mystery.

Overall, it was an impressive first edition for what will be a monthly event up until the launch of Xbox Series X, with a good mix of titles on display. While the Assassin's Creed 'gameplay' trailer didn't really reveal gameplay, it leaves us excited to see what Microsoft and its partner studios come up with between now and the holiday period.
