The coronavirus has struck again, and Blizzard is bearing the brunt. All homestands for this 2020 season have now been cancelled, and all games will be played online. For now, the question of whether or not to play the Grand Final online remains unresolved.

All Overwatch League homestands cancelled, matches to take place online

The Overwatch League will have suffered greatly from the situation. In order to protect the teams, players, staff and public, Blizzard has decided, in agreement with the teams, to cancel all future homestands of the season, switching to a fully online competition. The schedule of matches will be adjusted to allow for optimal conditions for all teams, and will be shared as soon as they're available.

For now, Playoffs and Grand Final could still be played with a live audience, but Blizzard has no information to give at this time. The evolution of the coronavirus crisis will, more than likely, be decisive in this decision.

Players, crews and staff will still be able to continue to compete and work from the venue of their choice, in complete safety, with no audience, travel, or unnecessary interpersonal contact — in accordance with health and safety recommendations and government mandates. All matches will be broadcast online, and available on demand on the official Youtube channel.

The Overwatch League was built to deliver season after season of live, city-based events in front of our amazing fans. While we are collectively facing an incredibly challenging time, we hope to get back to live events before 2020 season concludes, and we are working hand-in-hand with all our teams to make this happen as soon as it’s safe and logistically feasible.
