Founded in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross is an international movement for aid and assistance to victims of violence. It contributes to the prevention of conflicts and tensions, and operates in fields such as first aid, training, health and international actions.

Today, the association is joining forces with Fortnite to raise awareness and support for victims of violence and conflict through a new game mode. Titled "Liferun," it invites players to learn about several things through in-game activities. These include treating civilians, restoring critical infrastructures, removing landmines, and providing assistance as quickly as possible.

The game mode will be presented at PAX South this Sunday by Dr. Lupo, Lachlan and One Shot Gurl. For the humanitarian organization, the gaming community is constantly growing and is a fertile ground for raising awareness.

We must engage the more than 2 billion gamers worldwide. Video games have been mainstream entertainment and social platforms for a long time, and we know that many gamers are also current, past or future soldiers, army officers, armed group members, CEOs of companies, lawyers and political leaders. We need to talk to them in a smart and engaging way to explain that civilians suffer greatly in conflict.

International Committee of the Red Cross has used the medium of video games before. In partnership with Bohemia Interactive, they integrated messages on humanitarian law into Arma 3, a military simulation game.

Video games have long been used for good causes. Several charity gameathons, such as Desert Bus for Hope, Zlan and Games Done Quick regularly support various charitable organizations.
