Doom Eternal Walkthrough: How to defeat the Gladiator

The Marauder was just a taste of the boss in DOOM Eternal, the Gladiator that awaits you at the end of the Sentinel Prime mission is of a different caliber. Although less mobile, he's has a lot of health.

DOOM Eternal: How to defeat the Gladiator

  • The battle is really long, so take the reflex to ignite a zombie and then kill it with a chainsaw on a regular basis in order to supply yourself with ammunition and armor. You can also regularly ignite a zombie and then kill it with a Glory Kill to restore your health. Just remember that the boss isn't going to stop.
  • The first phase is quite similar to that of the Marauder: you have to wait until the Gladiator's eyes glow green to attack him. We strongly advise you to use the Ballista while moving sideways to avoid his attacks. It allows you to inflict heavy damage instantly at long range and with great precision.
  • Every time the Gladiator flashes, use the Double Rush to get closer and trigger a mini Glory Kill.
  • The second phase is much more difficult. There is no shield, but instead the Gladiator will spin his weapon to return the attacks. He will also be much more aggressive. You're going to have to be, too, if you don't want to die before he does, because some attacks are awfully hard to dodge. You'll have to do double jumps to avoid lateral blows for example. When you get stuck in the fire lane attack, you'll have to alternate between left and right jumps to dodge the waves of energy.
  • During the second phase, you can alternate between the Rocket Launcher and the Ballista to inflict heavy damage at long range. You can also use other weapons depending on your ammo status and gameplay preferences. The advantage of the Rocket Launcher is that it allows you to lock on to your target to fire in bursts.
  • Keep attacking the Gladiator and chain the Glory Kills, and don't forget to cut off small enemies after setting them ablaze. You can also quickly switch to the Shotgun to expose the Zombies to a Glory Kill in order to recover life.
  • Defeating the Gladiator will earn you a special trophy no matter the difficulty setting
